It can be frightening to get a $34,474.18 bill from the Hospital, after surgery, despite having Blue Cross Blue Shield Health & Medical Insurance which purported to cover the costs of such surgery.
That was the situation of a recent client. He had done nothing wrong. He went to the Hospital’s own doctors who told him he needed the surgery. He scheduled the surgery and submitted all of his requisite paperwork for pre-approval. All was good, he thought.
The surgery was successful and he was a happy patient until he received the bill. The bill stated that he was the guarantor and that Blue Cross Blue Shield had denied coverage of the procedure. They claimed that his surgery was an experimental procedure and that, because BC/BS was not liable, that he must pay for the medical procedure out of his own pocket.
This Attorney explained to the Hospital group that the client was not responsible for such charges and that the dispute was, in his opinion, between the Hospital Group and BC / BS.
Ultimately, the matter was turned over to a Collection Agency. This Attorney responded, yet again, and the matter was concluded in the client’s favor. The new amount due: zero (00.00).
Not every case ends like that, but hiring a competent and aggressive lawyer sometimes pays off.
